Gaëlle Gillot is a geographer, a senior lecturer in the Institute for Studies on Economic and Social Development of Paris 1 University. She has a double qualification, in Political sciences (Institute of Political Studies of Grenoble) and in geography (University of Tours). Her work concerns the policies for development of public places in the Arab and Muslim world (Cairo, Damascus, Rabat, Istanbul, Teheran) and their use by low-income populations. A complementary sector of this research concerns the transfer of urban models and the use of public places. She has published for example the note "parc"("park") in L’aventure des mots de la ville à travers le temps, les langues, les sociétés ( The adventure of the Words of Cities. Through time, Languages, Societies), Topalov C., Coudroy de Lille L., Depaule J-C., Marin B. (Eds.), Bouquins, Robert Laffont, 2010, "Le parc Al-Azhar. La vieille ville du Caire requalifiée par un jardin public" (Al-AzharPark. The old city of Cairo transformed by a public park"), Annales de la Recherche Urbaine, n°105, November 2008 and "Du paradis à Dream Park, les jardins dans le monde arabe: Damas, Le Caire, Rabat" ("From paradise to Dream Park, gardens in the Arab world: Damascus, Cairo, Rabat"), in Annales de géographie n°650, 2006. Some of the publications have been translated into Arabic and Farsi.
