Olivier Finance is a doctor in Geography. He finished his thesis, prepared into the ERC GeoDiverCity project, in october 2016, mobilizing urban, economic and quantitative geography. The thesis focuses on transnational investments in French cities, linking globalization with its local implications through scaling laws. He is now postdoc researcher into the Bru-Net project exploring diverse kind of spatial interactions in Brussels and its surroundings and Belgium. Into this project, he is analyzing economic interactions revealed by spatio-temporal traces of trucks circulations in Belgium. He is also building a visualization tool to wrap up cartographic results of works being done into the project: atlas.brussels.

RESEARCH TOPICS

Urban geography | Spatial disparities, spatioal interactions, cities as systems into systems of cities, cities beyond metropolises

Economic geography | Spatial dimensions of globalization | Local repercussions of global economic processes | Linkages between global processes and territorial dynamic

Quantitative geography | Spatial analysis | Regularities into geographical systems through statistical models (scaling laws), multivariate analysis, classification | Models as filters

DEVELOPMENT OF ATLAS.BRUSSELS

Conception and development of an interactive visualization tool to promote scientific results of the Bru-Net project focusing on interactions in Brussels and its surroundings. Multiple scales (Brussels and Belgium) and multiple kind of interactions (interpersonal interactions, home-to-work commuting, economic interactions, etc.) are wrapped-up in the tool, generally speaking represented as communities of places significantly interconnected. Available online on atlas.brussels.

TEACHING

Various topics: statistics and cartography, modelling and spatial analysis, economic, regional and urban geography, and online courses (MOOCs).
