Our Joint Research Unit via Sophie Baudet-Michel is involved in the organization of a mini-conference entitled "State Transformations, Spatial Austerity and the Globalization of Urban Decline: in Search of Alternative Urban Policies". This event falls within the framework of the annual congress of the "Society for the Advancement of Socio-Economics (SASE)", in Doshisha University, Kyoto (23-25 June 2018). The general theme of the congress is "Global Reordering: Prospect for Equality, Democracy and Justice".

The objective of this mini-conference is to illuminate current shifts in planning practices and discourses, as well as in local politics under an age of austerity, with a focus on economically depleted cities and regions.
