Material consumption is a major issue at international, national and local level. Territorial ecology aims at better understanding this consumption on a local basis, taking into account the eco-socio-systemic conditions characterizing each particular territory. It also aims at improving territorial metabolism on a sustainable basis.
Such an ambition necessitates a better characterisation of territorial metabolism. The aim of the project is to give the methodological bases of material flow accounting at local level (French regions and départements). The guide, based on the Eurostat method, will help local authorities and stakeholders to weight their territories in the strict sense of the term and to identify paths to dematerialization.
